Monumento às Bandeiras

Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo, Brazil

The Monumento às Bandeiras (Monument to the Flags) is a sculpture created by Victor Brecheret commissioned in 1921 by the government of the state of Sao Paulo, for the fourth centenary celebration of São Paulo city, opened in 1954.
It was granite made and have fifty meters long and sixteen high (185x59ft), is next to Ibirapuera Park, opposite the Nueve de Julio palace, the seat of the legislative assembly.

Represents soldiery and horses pulling and pushing a boat.

There is a local story that only the last man makes all the effort, pushing. Those who go ahead keeps pose, as we can see the strings are loose.

O Monumento às Bandeiras é uma escultura criada por Victor Brecheret encomendada em 1921 pelo governo do Estado de São Paulo, para às comemorações do quarto centenário da cidade de São Paulo, inaugurado em 1954.

Feita em granito com cinqüenta metros de comprimento e dezesseis de altura, está ao lado do Parque do Ibirapuera, em frente ao Palácio Nove de Julho, sede da assembléia legislativa. 

Representa uma tropa de homens e cavalos puxando e empurrando um barco.

Há uma estória local que apenas o ultimo homem faz todo o esforço, empurrando. Os que vão à frente apenas posam, visto que as cordas estão frouxas.

La vita è adesso

At the last block of Doctor Timóteo Pentado avenue is the Vila Galvão burgh, well known in that neighborhood. There haven´t any attractive, nor is the greatest and sophisticated area of Guarulhos. The one thing most notable there, is the Lago dos Patos (Lake of Ducks), quoted in another post. I think the most sophisticated place in Guarulhos is the Jardim Mais with his park.

 
That´s the building of that corner of Timoteo Penteado with Rua da Quitandinha (street). In the bar, above in sketch, there is a good Chopp and is very popular on weekends.
 

No final da Avenida Doutor Timóteo Penteado está localizado a Vila Galvão, que é bem famosa nas redondezas. Ali não existe quase nenhum atrativo, tampouco é a área de maior desenvolvimento de Guarulhos, o único ponto mais notável é o lago dos patos, que citei em outro post. Acho que em Guarulhos a área que mais se sofistica é o Jardim Maia, famoso pelo bosque que ali existe.

Este é um prédio localizado na esquina da Av Dr Timóteo Penteado com a Rua da Quitandinha. No bar que existe abaixo do prédio tem um bom Chopp e muito freqüentado nos finais de semana.

The Brazilian Post Office – Correios

Paralleled of Braz Leme avenue in São Paulo, there is a Alfredo Pujol avenuea and I think it´s very picturesque. Usually in the business day it's very congested and aren't a good choice for driving. But, I like to walk along there and have been looking for the builds, the outlines of street slope ans intersections.
I planing tho spend a few hours doing some sketches of that avenue. Here, I drew the corner of the Correios Agency (Brazilian Post Office), near the Leão XIII  (Leo) avenue.

Paralela a Avenida Braz leme em São Paulo, há a avenida Alfredo Pujol, que eu acho muito pitoresca. Geralmente durante a semana é uma avenida muito congestionada, não sendo uma boa opção para se andar de carro. Mas eu gosto de caminhar por lá, olhando os edifícios, o contorno das subidas e alguns cruzamentos com outras ruas.
Estou penejando em gastar algum tempo fazendo alguns outros sketches de lá. Aqui eu desenhei a esquina da agencia dos correios, perto da avenida Leão XIII.

One street not too beautiful

This is the last block of the Casa Verde Avenue (Green House). I think that´s is  ugliest streets
of the São Paulo north zone. At this crossroad, there is a purple beautiful Ipê, illustrated in this sketch. It's the only thing that I think is beautiful there.

Este é o quarteirão final da Avenida Casa Verde. Para mim eu acho esta a avenida mais feia da zona norte de São Pualo. Neste cruzamento existe um belo Ipe, ilustrado aqui neste sketch. Este é a única coisa que acho bonito nela.

Bosque Maia - Guarulhos

The Bosque Maia is in my opinion one of the most beautiful park of my city, Guarulhos. There people go to do many different activities, some go to walk, others to run, children ride bikes and play soccer and others go to play board games. It’s located near the center of the city, and my home too, and easily accessible.

In that sketch I drew at the outside view from that park.

 

O Bosque Maia é na minha opinião um dos lugares mais bonitos da cidade de Guarulhos. Lá as pessoas fazem as mais diversas atividades, como caminhar, correr, crianças andam de bicicleta e jogam futebol e ainda outros jogam Dama. Está localizado perto do centro da cidade e é de fácil acesso.

Neste sketch, eu desenhei uma vista do lado de fora do park, na calçada oposta.

Banespa's building seen from the north

The pallet needed to paint the skyline of Sao Paulo is no more than the gray scale, because the pollution layer is too dense and we have been seeing a dense fog gray covering the city. I couldn't saw from the upper side of the north zone the mountains on the south where starting the sierra of the sea, in that day.

A bit on the right and behind, there is the Banespa's building, resized to larger proportion for his signification in the city's center.

A palete necessária para pintar a skyline de São Paulo não vai além de tons de cinza. A camada de poluição é tão densa que vemos somente uma névoa cinza cobrindo a cidade. Do alto da zona norte, neste dia não dava para ver as montanhas além da zona sul, onde inicia a serra do mar.

Um pouco mais a direita ao fundo o edifício do Banespa valorizado em suas proporções pela sua significância em relação a todos os outros.

Japanese Food

In São Paulo you can found restaurants of various cultures. There is many Italians, Frenches, Japaneses and exotic too like a Indian food. I like Japanese food, and sometimes I go with my coworkers to any there. I made this watercolor in Koday, at the Voluntários da Pátria Street after a pleasant lunch.
Yet, I had do not made any sketch's foods on my sketchbook. This is the first one.

Em São Paulo você pode encontrar restaurantes de diversas culturas. Aqui existem vários restaurantes Italianos, Franceses, Japoneses e até mesmo alguns exóticos como aqueles que servem comida indiana. Eu gosto de experimentar novas combinações, mas a comida Japonesa muito me agrada e as vezes vou com meus colegas de trabalho a algum deles. Esta aquarela eu fiz no Koday, que fica na Rua Voluntários da Pátria, após um agradável almoço.
Ainda não havia feito um sketch sobre comida neste meu sketchbook. Achei interessante começar por este aqui.

Church of Our Lady of Rosary

I think is very amazing the church of Our Lady of Rosary, in Guarulhos. For a few months I have been passing front that every morning when I go to work and either when a I come back to home. It´s nearby my home and sometimes I frequent the mass on Sunday with my family. In the the past Saturday morning I invite my daughter to make some sketches of that, we sat on the opposite side of the Avenue St. Louis, nearly 20 minutes, sufficiently to drew, me on Molesquin and the Amanda in her notebook. This is my point of view of that amazing church.

A igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário em Guarulhos é uma construção que acho muito simpática. Há alguns meses passo todos os dias em frente, de manhã quando vou ao trabalho e também quando volto para casa. Este igreja fica bem perto de casa e algumas vezes assinto a missa do domingo com a minha família, até que sábado passado pela manhã convidei a minha filha para fazer alguns sketches da fachada. Ficamos sentados na Avenida São Luis por aproximadamente 20 minutos, que foi tempo suficiente para o registro a lápis, eu no Molesquine, e a Amanda no caderno de desenhos dela.

Skyline, trees and buildings of Braz Leme

It´s one more sketch that I made in my lunch break on Friday on my moleskine. I ate quickly snacks in Mc'Donnalds and went to that place to sketch the skyline and buildings. The Braz Leme Street is one more beautiful place in north of São Paulo, in my opinion, and have some good restaurants and Fest-Foods...I like the cerulean blue for the sky, it looks blue but have a bit of green. I like too the light yellow color of the Moleskine's page.

SESC Santana

 

Today I went at lunch break to drawing the SESC Santana's building.
The SESC is a cultural foundation created and maintained by the association of trade for incentive to the culture, art and sports too. There are some units scattered through the city of São Paulo, in the interior and some in other states.
Some artists made in this month awesome bug illustrations to decorate the front walls of the building. Yet, I don´t know the artist´s idea, but I want to find it.

Hoje fui na hora do almoço desenhar o prédio do SESC Santana.
SESC é uma fundação cultural criada e mantida pela associação do comércio e incentiva a cultura, arte e também os esportes. Existem algumas unidades espalhadas pela cidade de São Paulo, pelo interior e algumas em outros estados.
Neste mês alguns artistas fizeram uma bonita decoração de insetos na fachada. Ainda não conheço bem a idéia, mas pretendo descobrir.

All the time when I start a new draw, after the first lines, I have been a fear of boggle. I think that I perceive the responsibility always deserve the white sheet. It always happens and when I was started to sketch the church of Sant’Ana, that’s localized on the Voluntários da Patria Street, happened too. After a few moments the old security comeback and I can draw freely.

I insist the sketch isn’t a finalized piece, and it works as a model to artist work comfortably in your studio. Isn’t necessary spend a lot of time or make a detailed piece, the sketch must have the essential, in point to be considered a good sketch, without excess. Still insist in the oriental knowledge say, about the middle way.

Sempre que inicio um desenho, após os primeiros traços, bate um medo de fazer mal feito. Acho que percebo a responsabilidade de corresponder a altura do que a folha branca sempre merece.

Isso sempre ocorreu e também quando fui fazer o sketch da Igreja de Sant'Ana, que fica na Voluntários da Pátria. Só depois de alguns minutos volta a velha segurança e o trabalho flui.
Preciso persistir que um sketch é um esboço, não é a obra acabada. Ele serve como base para o criativo trabalhar cuidadosamente no conforto do seu estúdio. Não necessita ser demorado ou minucioso, precisa conter o essencial no ponto que seja considerado um estudo bem feito, sem exageros e também ausência de detalhes. Insisto que os orientais sempre falaram sobre isso, o caminho do meio.

Fist Braz Leme Street at Police Post

It’s a beautiful point with a lot of trees, in north region of São Paulo. I work nearby that street and went to draw at lunch break.

Department of military service – Brazilian Air Force

In the center of Santana , when finish the Braz Leme's street in São Paulo, there is one square named “Heróis da Força Expedicionária Brasileira” (Heroes of expeditionary Brazilian force), nearby the Air Force Base in Campo de Marte (SBMT). A long time I move there and and see three pillars pointing to the sky. I think it´s picturesque form and two weeks ago I went there to sketch.
In that place, left in the sketch, there is one P47 Thunderbolt's helix that fought for Brazilian Air Force in campaigns in the Italy in the WWII.

No centro de Santana, onde termina a Av Braz Leme, existe uma praça chamada “Heróis da Força Expedicionária Brasileira”, que fica próxima a base aérea do Campo de Marte (SBMT). Há muito tempo eu passo por ali e vejo três pitorescos pilares apontando para o céu. Há duas semanas atrás fui lá na hora do almoço para desenhar.
Naquele local, a esquerda no desenho, há uma interessante hélice de um P47 Thunderbolt que serviu a força aérea Brasileira em algumas campanhas na Itália, no tempo da Segunda Guerra.

The São Paulo's Subway – the Santana Station

A two weeks ago I drew the subway station Metro Santana, on the São Paulo's north zone. Not occasionally, some stations have been built above the level of the streets, by definition it isn't sub way, and Santana is one of this. More than 20 years ago, it was the last subway station on the north and this way went to Jabaquara station on the solth zone. The time pass, but with out same speed, the subway was expanded. Today, the last station is the Tucuruvi, nearby the Serra da Cantareira (Sierra of the Cantareira). When I come from work to my home, I pass with my motorcycle nearby of three stations.

In this drawing's day, I went to that place at the lunch time with my molesquine and two pencils.
I spend approximate 20min to draw, and later, at my home, I was applied the watercolors...

O Metro de São Paulo – Estação Santana

No antigo dialeto talvez Santana pretenderia dizer Santa Ana. Acredito que por abreviações da pronuncia popular este novo nome acabou sendo criado, que para o paulistano comum pouco faz sentido como nome da mãe da Maria de Nazareth (avó de Jesus). Eu acharia mais interessante esta grafia como “Sant'Ana”. A alguns anos aqui em São Paulo foi canonizado o Frei Galvão, que passou a ser conhecido como Santo Antônio de Sant'Ana Galvão.

Há duas semanas eu desenhei a estação Santana do Metro de São Paulo, na zona norte. Não ocasionalmente, algumas estações foram construídas acima do nível das ruas. Há mais de 20 anos, esta era a ultima estação da linha azul, norte – sul, que faz ligação com a estação Jabaquara, lá na zona sul. O tempo foi passando, e não com a mesma velocidade o Metrô foi se expandindo. Hoje a ultima estação da zona norte é a Tucuruvi, perto da Serra da Cantareira, mas somente três estações após a esta. Quando vou para casa do meu trabalho com a minha moto, passo pelas imediações de duas delas.

No dia que fiz este desenho, fui com o meu molesquine e duas lapiseiras, na hora do almoço. Parei em uma esquina da parte final da Av Cruzeiro do Sul, quando ela termina em uma praça. A esquerda há um acesso para rua Alfredo Pujol e a Direita a rua Conselheiro Saraiva. Para o trem que vai para a estação Tucuruví, os trilhos descem da plataforma para um túnel que passa sob a praça, já o trem que vai para o sul permanece nesta plataforma por mais três estações e apenas retorna a um túnel após a Estação Armenia, na avenida Tiradesntes.
Gastei aproximadamente 20 minutos desenhando, e depois, em casa, eu apliquei a colorozação com aquarela.

Homeless and Graffiti

With out things to say, or maybe I’ll introduce that childes homeless… Maybe I’ll write in Portuguese… I apologize… but this things are very important to me and I don’t would be inaccurate…

Estava desenhando um enfeite que geralmente fica sobre o criado mudo da minha cama, e o abajur que tenho e que muitas vezes me serve de luz para desenhar ou ler alguma, quando perco o sono e fico algumas horas somente deitado. Vi em uma revista uma imagem de uma criança de rua acuada e ajoelhada, mais ou menos nesta posição por uma roda de adultos, provavelmente pessoas que não tem o que comer. A cena era inspiradora e também preocupante. Achei que não era justo fazer um desenho clássico com minuciosos detalhes. Peguei então o lápis preto e fiz de intuição de primeiro traço. O resultado foi este... Deixei a pintura, acabamento ou sombreamento para o acaso. O desenho da esquerda está coberto por grafite e sei que o atrito de uma pagina com outro vai acabar manchando o menino de rua. Como também nós fazemos, deixamos estas crianças ao acaso... Triste não?

At an Indian Restaurant

For who likes to enjoy different foods, São Paulo is a great city. On last Friday I went with my friends to lunch at an Indian restaurant. I really enjoyed the vegetarian food. Is true it’s have a good taste. I was surprised with feijoada soybean and also estrogonofe soybean with cheese tofu. Here a sketch of my funny friends while they were waiting for food. And still I heard a girl of another one table commenting: “Look this, he’s drawing!” I really like this!

A very interesting sentence that I read on a sticking plaster at the entrance was “I don't eat nothing that have a face”. I think it´s a funny but serious too. I don´t approve a large killing of the animals and, and I think isn't correct the peoples to complain about the meat tough, of the poor animal that was sacrificed to be there on the us table. I believe we have what we deserve, and perhaps, the Indian people, who are very spirituality, deserve much more...
